Morrinsville Intermediate school speeches WINNER!

Below is a video of the Morrinsville Intermediate school speeches winner. She is a student of Room Ten and we are all very poud of her achievements today in the final. When asked how she felt about delivering her speech she gave a wee smile and simply said "nervous!". We have had class speeches, team speeches (3 classrooms), and final wole school (9 students in final).
It is very difficult to stand in front of a hall full of people and speak with confidence and conviction so, well done. Here is the winning speech in a more informal setting so you can listen ... enjoy.

30 Second Speeches - excellent!

Room 10 has begun researching their speech topics. While we are writing and researching our speeches we use our 30 second speech cards to gain confidence and have some fun. I have a box of speech topics and the students buddy up and choose a card each. They then spend a minute thinking about what they want to say and then give a brief speech on that topic. We do this about 3 times a week in the mornings before maths. This has really given a lot of the students more confidence and they are really having fun and being creative with their topics. If you can come up with some more 30 second speech card ideas it would be great if you could write a comment and let us know.

Speeches - what makes a good one?

Speeches .... they can be the most daunting task ever asked of you during your school years and for some of you the most exciting!. One trick for improving your confidence if you are one of those students who fears them is to start assessing what makes a good speech. We will be looking at the structure of what makes a good speech (hamburger model) but for now while we are in the planning stages of deciding our topics we need to look at speeches and asses what makes them good. Watch the following clip, what does it tell you about what makes a good speech? what are some of the techniques used? What is the focus of these speeches? are they aiming to Persuade, Inform or Entertain?
