People Can Make a Difference
We are looking at how people can make a difference as our topic for term one 2009. We have already discoverered a lot about ourselves, our school and local communities. We are just beginning to look into our National community and Global community. I have found this YouTube video and I would really like to hear your thoughts and opinions on this. It is very interesting ..... Please comment........
Atu and his Ukelele
The other day a few students and I were in class before the bell went and we heard this beautiful music and did not know where it was coming from. During the day I asked a student if they had heard the music also and they replied that they had and it was Atu from room 4 on his Ukelele (a small guitar with 4 strings). I saw Atu at lunchtime and was lucky enough to have him play me a song he had written himself..... it blew me away. I asked Atu to tell me more about his Ukelele and this is what he wrote down ......
When I was 9 years of age I started to learn how to play the Ukelele and when I had learnt my Grandad told me that he would give me a Ukelele on my 10th birthday. On my birthday my Grandad gave it to me and said ...
"I told you that I would make you one"
That's the reason my Grandad is so special, and my Ukelele, I think that is special too! It was hand made from special wood and now today I still think it is special. The way the kids at MIS look at my Ukelele I think they think it is special too. I play for the Kapa Haka group sometimes and I get heaps of praise when I walk into the hall with it. They ask me if they can have a turn with it but sometimes it is a no and they get a bit upset but hey, if its special to me why would I want to get it wrecked, and who would pay for it? ...... me!
My Ukelele is special because I think it is ... and my Grandada too!
Do you want to here Atu on his Ukelele?

Making a Difference - Brainstorming
Room Ten has been working extremely hard on making a difference at Morrinsville Intermediate over the previous week by providing games every lunchtime. On Wednesday we decided to sit down and brainstorm our progress and where to next for the project. You can see our brainstorming above and we were generally very pleased with the results and felt we really had made a significant difference. There were some areas identified in "where to next" that needed to be re-organised or clarified and these were all sorted out and ready for the games on Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately we had too many other activities happening around the school on Thursday lunch so we did not get enough players for the game. Friday was disappointing as we had a tropical storm and there was a lot of rain so we had to stay inside. Overall we are proud with what we managed to achieve and feel we definately MADE A DIFFERENCE!
We will have photos and videos soon .......

People Can Make a Difference - update
Room Ten has been working hard each lunchtime this week providing MIS with some sporting opportunities to promote healthy lifestyles and positive social interaction for our unit "People can make a difference". We have encountered some issues and today had a brainstorming session of .... where to next? So far we have played; GOOJ (Get out of Jail), 2 Ball Soccer and Bench Ball. Tomorrow we are playing 3 bat cricket followed by touch rugby on Friday.
Find out more soon as we will be collating the videos, photos, and interviews and compiling a very exciting post hopefully early next week.

Making a difference in our school community.
BubbleShare: Share photos - Find great Clip Art Images.
Room Ten has been looking at how people make a difference. We begun by looking at what makes us special and unique. We have now moved on to looking at our community and how we can make a difference. Room Ten decided that by having a week where they organised sports it would make a difference to the healthy choices and social choices made by our students ..... check our progress .....

Boyznbikes #1
Currently Room 10 is reading Boyznbikes by Vince Ford as a shared book.
This book is all about a boy called Callum who can't help getting into trouble. He gets suspended from school and his dad has allowed him to travel with him, Baz, and Skid on their annual Big Bike Ride. Many things unfold and Callum learns a lot about his dad and the SECRET!!!!
What I would like is for room 10 students (everyone else who is reading this book too is more than welcome also) to answer questions posted on this site about the book and use inference to try and guess what happens next.
QUESTION set ONE: Who do you think Maddy is?, What makes you say that?

Room Tens Mission Statement
Room Ten decided to write their own Mission statement.
We:
1. Discussed what a mission statement is (A statement that defines a purpose)
2. Wrote a class brainstorm of words that we felt were important to our class.
3. Got into groups of 5 and wrote our statements.
4. Shared back and voted on the top 2 statements and combined all the parts we felt valuable and came up with this .......
To have fun while learning. To be a knowledgable risk taker with all opportunities. We will always try our best and know it is ok to make mistakes while expanding our bubble of knowledge. Our life is developing every second and success is our friend!
From the 2 chosen mission statements we combined we would like to thank: Christina, Luke, James, Jessica, and shannon (Rm 10)

Morrinsville is half an hour drive from Hamilton City in the North Island of New Zealand. We are mainly a farming community. This blogpage is about our class and school. We will be putting up our work and writing our perspectives on different topics that we are studying. We hope that you can express your opinions and give us feedback as well.
What is happening at MIS (Morrinsville Intermediate School) this year:
We are all excited about the many opportunities that this year has for us. Some activities that are happening this year are, Livestock Day where you can bring any animal (mostly farm animals), we have trips to Samoa and Japan, and many more. At MIS there are lots of leadership roles like student executive, class councilor, sports council, librarian and flag monitors. Cant wait to tell you more, especially about our team .... AOTEA.
Welcome to our blogpage.
Thanks to Nicole for the great idea of hanging off the playground for our welcome photo ... very cool!
